We understand that auditioning brings out nerves that are difficult to control. You will present your monologue(s) and then work with the program coordinator on various additional ways of performing the monologue(s). A chair will be available for use should you need it. Auditions are held in the Antone Academic Center’s Megley Theatre (or virtually as needed or preferred). Students who have a headshot and resume should bring them to the audition. This will be considered a cold reading (you will not have seen it ahead of time), but the program coordinator will work with you to achieve a level of comfortability which also shows capability. Prepare to come in and work with the program coordinator on a monologue available at the time of the audition.

The monologue may be in any style, but should be from a published playscript. Prepare one monologue, to be performed in under two minutes, that shows off your awareness of monologue performance.Contrasting monologues may be comedic and dramatic, classical and contemporary, or realistic and presentational. Prepare two contrasting monologues, to be performed in three minutes or under.We ask that you prepare your audition to the best of your ability and knowledge that you have acquired thus far. We do not believe that any given path is an indication of talent or potential, but that training is what best equips students to succeed. Others have not had extensive training or the chance to perform often, or are relatively new to theatre as an activity and/or interest. Some students have received lessons, classes or performance opportunities that equip them with specialized preparation and knowledge of monologue selection and the audition process. While some popular double majors include marketing, creative writing, psychology and social work, any program of study will be made richer with a theatre background. The skills gained in theatre are so unique and beneficial that any student can find additional strength with a double major in theatre arts. If you want to build skills in theatre arts along with other areas of interest, we encourage a double major in theatre arts and another program of study. We offer two concentrations for students who are serious about a career in theatre: acting and technical theatre.
